EDGE plm numbering provides a simple system apply a unique name/number to parts and assemblies. The name/number is applied automatically to new parts and assemblies as they are created ensuring that your company standard is maintained. Additionally EDGE plm numbering can allocate part numbers to an existing assembly to enforce company standards after the fact.
This flexible tool allows for a wide range of naming or numbering schemes. From a simple unique number sequence through to combinations of user defined pull-down fields together with free form letter number sequences and /or automatic letter number sequences. This allows you to emulate almost any naming convention.
Some examples might be PAR0273 where PAR is a fixed field indicating that this is a part file and 0273 is a unique 4 digit number. Another could be PSM-ELEC-002158 where PSM indicates that this is a sheet metal part, ELEC is selected from a list which might include such items as HYDRLC, MECH, ELEC, etc., and 002158 is a unique 6 digit number.
Another example might be ASM-CONCRETE-01747-Sump GA where ASM indicates that this is an assembly, CONCRETE is from a list of fields describing the type of assembly, 01747 is a unique 5 digit number and Sump GA is a user entered qualifying field. The part number is automatically applied to the Solid Edge Document Number property.
In addition any field can be automatically applied to any user selected property. For instance the User Input field Sump GA from the previous example could be applied to the Title property. Similar techniques can be applied to existing assemblies and their associated parts to enforce company standards. In this case the new number is applied to the Solid Edge Document Number property.
Finally EDGE plm numbering provides a Create in Place function to maintain standards during top-down assembly modeling.
